Intel has reduced the price of its high-end Core Ultra 7 270K Plus desktop CPU to $279.99, marking an all-time low. Benchmarks show it rivals AMD’s top processors and outperforms some Intel models, making it a compelling choice for gamers and PC builders.
Intel’s high-end Core Ultra 7 270K Plus desktop CPU is currently available for $279.99, a $50 reduction from its previous price, marking an all-time low and making it more accessible for gamers and PC builders.
The Core Ultra 7 270K Plus, announced by Intel in late March as one of its “fastest gaming desktop processors ever,” is now priced at $279.99 on Amazon, representing about $45 off the normal retail price. This processor has demonstrated performance comparable to AMD’s Ryzen 9 9000-series CPUs and surpasses Intel’s own Core i9 14900K in various benchmarks, according to tests conducted by Gamers Nexus.
The CPU requires a motherboard with an LGA 1851 socket, supporting DDR5 RAM, multiple M.2 SSDs, and Wi-Fi 7. While the price drop makes high-end PC components more affordable, the overall cost of building a gaming PC remains influenced by high RAM prices. Retailers like Micro Center offer bundles that include discounted RAM to help mitigate costs.
Additionally, Intel is offering a promotion where customers who register their purchase of the 270K Plus by July 31st will receive a free download of the Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight game, adding value to the purchase.
Why It Matters
This price reduction makes a top-tier gaming CPU more accessible to consumers, potentially influencing PC building and upgrade decisions. The 270K Plus’s performance benchmarks suggest it can rival or outperform more expensive options, offering a compelling choice for gamers seeking high performance without the premium price.
For the broader PC hardware market, this discount signals Intel’s effort to stay competitive against AMD’s Ryzen lineup and could accelerate adoption of Intel’s latest platform features, including DDR5 and Wi-Fi 7 support.

Background
Announced in late March, the Intel Core Ultra 7 270K Plus quickly gained attention for its high performance, with benchmarks showing it outperforming some existing flagship CPUs. Prior to this, Intel’s high-end desktop processors have generally maintained higher prices, limiting accessibility. The current sale at Amazon is the first significant price drop since its release, reflecting competitive market dynamics and Intel’s promotional efforts.
